INSPIRATION
"Daisy’s Day Out in New York" is an immersive children’s book that blends storytelling with interactive augmented reality (AR) elements that make the story come to life. Join Chip, a spirited chipmunk from the pages of the book, as he takes a little girl Daisy on an adventure, exploring the vibrant streets and landmarks of New York City.
PROCESS
Fascinated by the educational possibilities of augmented reality (AR) to inspire children's learning and reading, my initial vision was to develop an AR scavenger hunt experience across various cities in the world. As my ideas evolved, I transitioned into a collaborative endeavor. Partnering on a visual storytelling project, we animated a children's book with interactive AR elements. This book not only promotes reading but also turns the story into a captivating adventure, enabling young readers to embark on a playful and imaginative exploration of the wonders of New York.
We started with concept development and illustration of the book pages. Augmented reality effects were designed to align with the storyline, enhancing the interactive narrative. The integration of QR codes facilitates a seamless experience for users to unlock augmented reality elements by scanning. After conducting user testing to ensure optimal functionality, we finalized the printed book that seamlessly combines traditional storytelling with augmented reality. The tools we used included Spark AR for augmented reality development, and Adobe Fresco and Procreate for animating effects and illustrating book pages.
